About

Bear Burns Counselling Exeter
Bear Burns, MBACP Registered Counsellor in Exeter, Devon

In this space, you don’t need to be anything or live up to anything. Come as you are. Wherever you’re at right now.

The most important thing to start is that you feel safe talking to me. You know you’ve come to a place where you’re going to be met with warmth, non-judgement, with a solid, grounded and calm presence and a clear commitment to your privacy and confidentiality.

Prior to training as a counsellor, I worked in the well-being industry since 2015 as a massage therapist. With a list over 1200 clients and thousands of hours of treatment time, it’s in my DNA to create a safe space where people can make and take the time to focus on themselves.

I’m neurodivergent, which I see as a unique strength in this work. I know that our brains don’t play the world in the same way, and I’m fascinated to learn about what your world looks like for you. This can often emerge in creative approaches and questions which lead to therapeutic growth.

As a man, I’m aware of the inequities and unfairness baked into everyday life for women, people of colour and those across the diverse sexual spectrum which includes those historically under- or mis-represented.

Most of all, I have a deep commitment to mental health, wellbeing and self compassion, as well as an intimate understanding of ‘parts’ drawn from my own history, life events and experiences.

I am a registered member of and regulated by the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy.
