Gestalt Therapy: A Holistic Approach to Mental Well-being

Gestalt therapy is a unique form of psychotherapy that emphasizes personal responsibility and focuses on the individual’s experience in the present moment, the therapist-client relationship, the environmental and social contexts of a person’s life, and the self-regulating adjustments people make as a result of their overall situation.  

 

Key Principles

Techniques

  • The Empty Chair Technique: This involves the client imagining someone (or a part of themselves) sitting in an empty chair and engaging in a dialogue with them. This can help individuals express unspoken feelings and resolve internal conflicts.
  • The Hot Seat Technique: The client sits in a designated “hot seat” and is asked to share their immediate experiences and feelings. This encourages self-awareness and emotional expression.
  • Role-Playing: Clients may be asked to act out different scenarios or roles to explore different aspects of themselves and their relationships.
